GottaCruz
I can remember our first cruise aboard the Sensation in 1995. I had no idea what to expect. As soon as we stepped onto the ship and I looked up at the atrium area with all the glitzy lights , several stories high, I was just mesmerized. Gregswife
Our first cruise, also in '95, was on the Fantasy. We had no idea of the sheer size of those ships and also didn't know the cruise schedule. We assumed the ship would arrive in port the night before. When we got to Cocoa Beach the day prior to our very first embarkation, we decided to drive down to the port to see if the ship was in. As you all may know, the port in Cape Canaveral is either 2 or 3 stories high. I know the first 2 are used for pasenger services but cannot remember if there is another floor of offices or not. Anyway, we didn't see anything, so we assumed the building hid the ship. The next day, when we caught sight of the boat for the first time, it was quite an awesome moment. We could not imagine it being that large. Now we have sailed on ships much larger - but I still get a lump in my throat when I catch that first glimpse of the ship we will be sailng on. YellowBird
For me it would also be seeing the ship for the first time. Pictures just does not compare to the actual size of these ships. The conquest will be the largest ship I have been on so far.
KeithnRita
Guess what Cheryl, the exact same thing mesmerized us--the atrium and all the glitz! Our first ship was also the Sensation in 1997.
rogue
For us, it was also the Atrium. We were on the Nordic Empress which has an Atrium thats spans 6 decks with large windows going all the way to the top deck. The sheer size and grandness was enough to stun us both. SMB
Of course, the ship. Who is not going to say "the ship" ?!!! Aside from the ship, I was impressed on the Mariner cruise when one of the skaters landed a double-axle on that itty-bitty ice rink on a pitching ship. 1959kar
the size of the ship, oh my josh, I knew they were huge but seeing one for the first time, up close and personal was awesome, indeed...

SCIROCCO
Everthing everybody else said and more! I went Overseas two times on Transport Ships and we were in the lower hold for the Troop Quarters, We didnt get up on deck much but once a day and that was the worse experince in my Life as a Very young man at the age of 16 My Mother signed for me to go into the Military to get me away from my Stepfather! When Our Daughters Bought us a 5 day Cruise in 2001 I said no Im not going Ill never get on another Ship, but since it was from my Girls and for Our Anniversary I said OK! The Most Important thing is that I was able to enjoy the Walkways to look out over the Ocean and the serenity of it the calmness and just to take away all my Fellings about being on another Ship! It cured me as well and since then I havent looked Back! AMEN! westernmom
Robert - I love that you consider us "friends" and I'm happy to be called that! Thank heavens we can pick our friends because we can't our relatives! What surprised me about our cruise...... The atmosphere! Everyone was happy and excited and when we walked up to the Lido and heard the steel band I just knew I was the luckiest person on earth! I just wanted to stand there with Frank's arm around me, listen to all of the happy sounds, enjoy looking at the Miami skyline, and know that we had a week of fun and sun ahead of us.
