jacketwatch
Well what if he is right? Perhaps the alcohol did indeed react in a weird way with medication he was taking. I did not see where anyone did an alcohol blood level. I am not trying to start an argument but in my 27+ yrs. of being an RN I have seen many weird reactions to drugs and alcohol is a drug, esp. if it is in combinations with other substances. For example we used to use intra-venous lidocaine, the same stuff that the dentists injects to numb you with, for heart rhythms problems. One side effect of this is emotional disturbances such as depression which I have seen B4. You wouldn't think something used so commonly could do that but people have what is called idiosynchratic reactions to meds. Some people become agitated when given sedatives, or very confused. Again, not trying to provoke an arguement, just looking at it from a different angle.
Mebert
jacketwatch, No arguement here. I'm just saying responsible drinking means that one is aware of things like meds one is taking and refrains from mixing it with alcohol. I'm not exactly sure of the man's circumstances or if there were warnings on the drug's container. Perhaps a few people are at fault if there were no warnings on the drugs about the interaction of the drug and alcohol.
jacketwatch
Actually w/o knowing all the particulars I don't think one can assume this man was irresponsible. Its always possible he had an unanticipated or idiosynchratic reaction. Personally B4 I would say he was at fault I would like to know more about how much he drank, the med involved, any previous history of alcohol use/abuse etc. Actually it may be no ones fault. It doesn't seem to me we know enough to assume that. We probably never will either. Again, JM2C. Larry
Mebert
jacketwatch, You are absolutely right. I fell into that trap of being pulled into a news story that offers sketchy information and not complete info. There was a man on the Morning Show this morning who was recued after 17 hours in the water. I wonder if it's the same man. He said he thinks that his drink was drugged.
