SMB
Love Boat? Yuck! I can barely keep my balance on dry land I don't know where the railing goes in that Kama Sutra move...but I'll be wipping out the clorex wipes before touching the rails from now on
eagleforest
From my understanding is the woman fell and the man jumped in afer her. But to be naked in the water as they were found in there skinny dippies. I know on the aft unless you can bounce 4 to 5 times you wont make it to the water. I really think they should put out nets and then tell people is for the possibility of falling debris. What is truly amazing is that on aircraft carriers there are no railings. But they stay onboard. On our one cruise a friend that we met was a little tipsy and she walked out onto our aft balcony. I turned to get something out of the room and she was sitting on the rail. She said the view was better. I asked her to get off the balcony. She said she was OK. It only takes a little to lose your balance and then its a coroners report. Mebert
rogue, That was a very interesting article. There does seem to be a steady increase in people going overboard since 1997. It's also interesting that the chart starts at 2003, the year that I started cruising. Seems that Carnival has the highest number of incidents. As I only cruise on Carnival, I guess I had better be careful. Actually, I do not see how one could fall overboard with the railings being as high as they are. The only scenario I could really envision it happening would be if the ship would list greatly to one side. Maybe if they were quite tall...I am 5'7" and the railings are always higher than my waist, so I don't see how you could just fall over one. Gregswife, Remember that Carnival has the largest number of ships out there. On our one cruise a friend that we met was a little tipsy and she walked out onto our aft balcony. I turned to get something out of the room and she was sitting on the rail. She said the view was better. I asked her to get off the balcony. She said she was OK. Has anyone heard from any of these people as to the cause of their going overboard?
GottaCruz
Maybe one day this couple will be on Oprah telling their story. Although, maybe they're more likely to be on the Jerry Springer show. That story would be very interesting, don't ya think??? Somebody upstairs was certainly looking out for them. To survive the fall and then the water---------Whoa, must have been their very luckiest day, that's for sure.
Mebert
When I really think about the experience, I would be terrified out of my mind imagining all sorts of things like sharks and hypothermia. I want to know what she was doing when she fell overboard. If it's true that the woman fell overboard and the brave gentleman jumped in after her, what was she doing? It's important for young people to know so that they don't follow that example.
