Does anyone have information on taking the euro train from Paris to Barcelona.

All of the web sites I have been researching are a mix of languages and am not quite sure if I am understanding the information correctly.

So my questions are: frequency<], duration of trip<], is first class a must over 2nd class ?<], and ease of accomplishment<].

Any and all imput is appreciated

Joey

I wanted this as an option.. since David will be retiring from Amtrak and we wanted to see Paris ..I thought it may be cute to fly into Paris spend a couple days then rail to Barcelona its about a days full ride 12 -15 hours.. and a compartment with sleepers are priced reasonably.. just putting on my options cap..

I can't comment directly on the train from Paris to Barcelona. However, I have taken the train from Paris to Nice. First, Barcelona is NOT in the south of Spain, but the north-east corner. If you were going to Madrid or Valencia, I would say to hop a short flight. I will also say that most people going to Paris by rail (even from Nice) take the overnight train. Having traveled up and down Italy in both first and second class on Eurostar, I can say that firstclass is well worth the treat. My recommendation... If you like travel by rail and time is not a concern, then pick up a nice french bottle of wine and some fresh bread, cheese, and olives, and have a great ride. By the way, what I've seen of the French countryside is well worth the view from the train. Most people miss this when traveling.

I'd also recommend that you take me with you :rolleyes2:

I've been to Barcelona. Of course it's in the eastern part of Spain, in Catalonia. It's true that it isn't as far south as Malaga; but if you travel 100 feet south of Barcelona, you're in the Med. That's Southeast to me, not northeast, even if it has the same latitude as northwestern Spain; but I get your point. It's really just east, and on the Med. No matter how you define it, it's around 11 hours by train from Paris. Paris-Nice is much, much faster by TGV than the trip to Barcelona--about 5 1/2 hours.
