When we buy "bottles" in ports of call and have walked back on the ship with them - we have never had them taken away. I also bought Dh a very expensive four pack of Johnny Walker (all colours lol) on Carnival Pride - for his birthday (with my casino winnings) and they gave it to us to take right back to our room.

There doesn't seem to be much consistency at all.

I was able to put a bottle of champagne I bought in Villefranche Sur Mer through security and no one said a peep. That was Celebrity Mille in 2005. On my last cruise, 2007 Celebrity Summit, I saw people in security getting their liquor taken. Who knows, they might have been silly enough to say something so the crew felt obligated.

I do recall that for Celebrity you are now allowed to bring 2 bottles of wine on board at embarkation, but not hard liquor. Something to that effect. I think Joey found the policy link before.

I was just on a Princess Cruise in February and ended up buying some raspberry rum while I was at the Bacardi Factory in Puerto Rico before the cruise started. They wrapped my bottle in bubble wrap and I stuffed it in my suitcase and had no problems. I didn't drink it on the ship as I wanted to bring it home and let my friends try it.

Oh, we are very sneaky... My husband travels a lot and gets the drinks on the planes and keeps the small Jack Daniels bottles, etc. They are the size for one drink. We have about 10 of them and fill them. They are good for a drink for each evening before bed, etc. We fill them and put them inside our socks and shoes when we travel. We have never been caught, but we could sometime.

:cool2: Now that is sneaky.:biggrin: You inspire me.:biggrin:

Actually it seems to me the only issue w/ having it in checked luggage won't be with Princess. It will come if ones bags are opened and inspected by the TSA. Last yr. we found one of our bags missing its TSA lock when we fetched it in Papeete. Nothing was missing but in the bag were three chargers for Minolta, Sony and Nokia products that were NOT ours. A major screw up by the TSA for sure.
