txSherry
Howdy! So my question is generic in that it doesn't deal with a specific port. In reading various posts in various places I frequently see mention of the "night life" at a port. That confuses this never-cruised gal something fierce! My impression was that the ships pull into a port in the a.m. (people disembark 10ish) and then the ship pulls back out about 6pm (people should re-board 4:30ish). So where's the night life? Why concern with what beaches have great sunsets? What am I missing here?
sailingrose
Your right, most ships leave ports around 5 or 6 but some stay later in certain ports like Aruba, San Juan , etc. If your cruise is stopping at a particular port in the evening I'm sure some of the Crazies can help out but we would need to know which port? rogue
There also are some ships that actually stay overnight in certain ports, and leave sometime the next day.
cruisetarp
Just as an example, 7 day cruises to Bermuda from Northeast Coast ports spend 3 days in Bermuda so you have a change to experience the nightlife. Also our St. Maarten stop this year will have us in port til 10PM and last year we were in St. Thomas til 10PM. It just depends on the itinerary. txSherry
Ah okay. That explains it. My ports are Cozumel and Calica (Cancun/Playa del Carmen... I'm researching this stop right now!). And we're not supposed to be in port overnight. The 'nightlife' posts I saw all were talking about cozumel or other Mexican ports. This is primarily where I was researching a cruise from and none of the 4,5 or 7 dayers (from carnival) stayed overnight. I guess i *COULD* stay over night in Cozumel and catch up to the ship across the bay in Calica ;-) but I'm not up for that kind of adventure. MrsAmanda7
The "night life" is usually our day life in ports. We go to best bars on the islands we visit. We have had the most amazing times dancing, drinking, and eating during the day. Who says it has to be dark to drink? I love cruises. lindasuelucas
i haven't had a night port of call to party all night at but i'm looking forward to it.
BSCorvette
If you leave the ship in one port and "catch up" at a later port you could be subject to a hefty fee by the cruise line. My buddy did that in Oahu and took a plane to Maui only to be charged $300 to get back on the ship! Check with your cruise line before trying it! 1shipshape
My stop in San Juan will not leave port until 8 p.m. I love the sunsets in the various places and just being on the ship. I think many more cruises are doing this now... staying in port later and I do know of a few others that leave at 10 p.m. or even stay overnight. Should be fun!
