CanadianCruiser Posted August 2, 2007 Report Share Posted August 2, 2007 A cruise ship struck a pier overhang while docking Thursday morning on the West Side of Manhattan, closing down 12th Avenue near 56th Street and causing backups on the Henry Hudson Parkway. But New York City Police said their were no reported injuries in the incident, which occurred at 7:35 a.m. when the Carnival Cruise Lines ship "Victory" struck an overhang as it was docking following its return from a four-day cruise to Canada and New England. Police had no other details. The Victory had just completed a 4-day round-trip cruise to Saint John, New Brunswick, in Canada and was supposed to disembark passengers in New York starting at 8 a.m. at the Passenger Ship Terminal, operated by the New York City Economic Development Corp., when the accident occurred Thursday. In a prepared statement, released by Carnival shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, the cruise ship line said: "Around 7 a.m. this morning, August 2, as the cruise ship Carnival Victory was in the process of docking at one of the west side piers in Manhattan, the vessel came in contact with the pier causing minor damage to the ship and pier. No guest or crew injuries were reported and the ship is expected to sail this afternoon on its next voyage as scheduled.
