I used to get all gussied up for formal night, including long, formal gown, etc (I started cruising in 1984 when I was 21). Since that time however, age and I guess motivation have seen me dress down for formal nights, i.e. a nice cocktail dress or similar. I used to have DH wear a tux but that was the last DH, lol! The current one wears a dark suit and has always seemed to be dressed just right. I have only sailed Carnival, RCI, and NCL (and a few defunct lines) so I've not been in the company of folks who still dress way up for the formal nights such that maybe Holland or Princess or Crystal would see. I'm getting "comfortable" in my "old age", lol and would really rather wear sweats  but don't mind getting gussied up a night or two, gives DH and I a chance to act grown up  Besides, this is why we have become balcony addicts, you don't have to wear anything out there if you choose!!!!!

Not a problem to rent! I have done it on my last 3 cruises. I even rent one for my DS as he likes to dress up now too! I just bought one as I have 4 cruises booked at the moment,,,wahoo!!!!

I actually liked renting one from the ship! You get to your cabin & there is a slip to get your tux & it is all set to go! If there is a problem with the fit they have an alteration dept. onboard!!!

Go for it & have fun!!!

Enjoy your cruise!

Chuck

I love formal nights. I have allways worn a tux & rented it from the ship. This time I think I might buy a tux for the 4 cruises I have planned.

I don't own a suit & if I am going to get dressed up it might as be all the way!

Coolness! Jeff, my husband, doesn't own a suit either. I offered to buy a tux (found a few not too expensive ones -- just double what renting would be) but he didn't like that idea. However, he said a quick SURE! to renting one. My jaw dropped down :P lol. He likes the idea of not schlepping it on board or worrying about taking care of it. He doesn't know yet that I plan on us taking a LOT more cruises ;-)

But I'm really happy to hear someone else renting them. I was hoping I wasn't steering him wrong there offering that as a choice. I saw it on the carnival site when I was looking for the drink coupons.
