zebra
Our very first cruise was on a Carnival ship, it was an older ship and only a 4 day cruise ... we had a great time although it really was very much a "party ship" but it hooked us on cruising. The next cruise was a awesome deal that we couldn't refuse - but was a change of cruise line. That prompted us to try most of the different cruise lines. After all that cruising we formulated a preference for Princess - although we have NEVER had a bad cruise on any cruise line. My question to you... do you think if we cruised on Carnival again that we would find a big difference in our cruise experience of 12 years ago? I know there are many die hard Carnival fans on this board who can give a good overview on Carnival cruising, I'm especially interested in hearing from the ones who have cruised on other lines as well, those who can compare. Thanks "y'all" for your input.

jacketwatch
I think if you cruised one of their newer ships and took a longer, i.e. not a booze cruise you would be quite surprised. Or to put it another way and objectively there was a discussion on Fodors about Carnival vs. RCI and over there I think you have a Carnival bashing culture so the naysayers were in full bloom as usual. I went to x and took the time to tabulate and average the collective scores from all the members reviews. For Carnival that came to nearly 4000 reviews. The results? RCI's ships averages 4.44/6. Carnivals averaged 4.43! Those numbers don't lie. Yes, I think you will be fine. JM2C. Larry
zebra
Thanks Larry - that's great, good averages. We're leaning towards taking another Carnival cruise.
CanadianCruiser
Jackie I have only sailed Disney and Carnival, both with my family and although I cant compare my experience to RCCL, I do not think for a minute you would be disappointed in a Carnival cruise. Like Larry said if you were to choose a 7 day of longer on one of the newer ships, it may confrm your addiction to cruising...
JohnG
Carnival promotes the Fun Ship image. However, 12 or 15 years ago it was a booze cruise for the frat boys. But today, the average Carnival passenger is 47 years old. They have changed....and so has the cruise line. It serves some of the best food and has some of the best shows. It is full of daily activities if you choose to participate...or not. The decor is more electric than many lines, but their newer large ships of the Conquest class have been moving in a bit different direction on decor. Gregswife
Jackie, all 10 of our past cruises and the 2 we have on deck have been on Carnival, so I don't have anything to compare them with, but I think they are wonderful and have never been disappointed by them. zebra
Thanks John and Cheryl - it's always good to have one's fears allayed. John your description of 12-15 years ago was our experience, but like the rest of your post, I have heard more and more great things about the cruise line of recent years. I think they have tried hard to rid themselves of the party ship image, and succeeded. Nothing wrong with fun, that's what we want when cruising. After all, all of you wonderful people can't be wrong. Thanks!!

Chucksta63
Personally I think the shorter cruises are the party cruises. Once you hit the 7 day mark you get a whole different class of folks cruising I feel. I did a 4 day & right away I was hooked, but I will only do a 7 day or longer from now on, unless I was doing a guys cruise then a 4 or 5 day would be just right & yea I would party a bit harder then. I think the shorter cruises are the party cruises. I say go for it! Why don't you think about coming with Cheryl & a bunch of us here to Mexico in Jan. 09? Carnival 8 day on the Spirit!
