JoeyandDavid
I booked a short discovery cruise on RCCL monarch of the sea .. for December 3, 2007... So i am looking for information on this ship and line.... With our previous cruising credits on celebrity we were able to join the crown and anchor society as a platinum menbers.... i would like some information on the Private departure lounge that they say is available.. is it just a seperate room with punch and cookies? What is checkin like?...
cruisetarp
Joey - the private departure lounges vary greatly from port to port but you should definately have a seperate room with juice and cookies while you wait to board. There generally is little or no line and check-in is much faster. Enjoy!!

sailingrose
Joey, glad to hear you joined Crown and Anchor. You will get a coupon book in your cabin usually the first night with coupons to use during the cruise. Casino, drink, pictures, stores, and internet minutes. Departure lounge is for all the Platinum, Diamond, & Diamond Plus members. It's usually just a room where they have coffee and pastry and chairs to wait for your departure. They start debarking with the Diamond levels and we usually get off the ship pretty early usually by 8 am. Check in is a breeze usually. We normally get to the port around 11. The lines look long but they move very quickly. You should have no problem navigating embarkation. Your stateroom won't be ready till 1 however so head up to the buffet and have some lunch by the time your done, your cabin should be done. I will tell you that Monarch is one of the older ships so please go into this trip with an open mind. We have sailed on the Monarch but it's been 5 years or so and from what I understand she was refurbished since then. I like that she's easy to navigate and not too large. RCI's newer ships are stunning but Monarch is more like a classic. I hope you enjoy it!
JoeyandDavid
Rose .. thanks that was a great post!!... There is no doubt i will keep an open mind.. this trip is to just get a feel for RCCL.. hows the food.. the service... etc.... on this cruise the condition of the ship doesn't bother me as long as its clean... zebra
We are certainly no experts - we have only cruised once on RCCL, on the Legend of the Seas..... transatlantic to Bermuda and Potugal. We had a aft cabin, actually a junior suite.... it was totally awesome. The food was excellent, although not as varied as Princess, HAL and Celebrity - BUT that may have changed..... we cruised a couple of years ago. We loved it - and certainly want to cruise RCCL again. sailingrose
Joey ask away. Having traveled with them over 20 times I'm sure I can help with almost anything. I love RCI but I'll be honest no matter what. I also love Princess and Celebrity......
Joanandjoe
Rose, I know it's off topic, but go to the post about RCCL Wants Me Back. RadiofreeBC will be the video director on your holiday cruise, and he wants to get together with you.
cruisetarp
Joey - As a platinum C & A member you are also entitled to a discount on a balcony cabin if you wanted to upgrade to one. The amount varies by the length of the cruise.
JoeyandDavid
she told me that but 25 dollars off wasn't enough incentive.....after all its only a very short 4 nighter...
