bikevegas
I know that you can find some great buys on jewelry in the Caribbean but what about camera's? I was wanting to treat myself to a new one for Christmas but if I can save some $$, I can wait till my March cruise. Any info is appreciated! TheSkipper
I've found no real bargains in the islands. They do carry a lot of models and put together some bundles including a case, and other small items. But, the actual price of the camera is not that different that here at home. I bought one in St. Thomas a few years ago simply because it was there and so was I and I wanted to use it on the rest of the cruise. But, it was no reall bargain. sailingrose
I agree with Skipper, not the big bargains that we used to get years ago.
RNSANE
For one of the best sources on camera information, check out www.dpreview.com ( digitals ). It is the site most used by one of my professional colleagues who is a forensic MD and an expert in digital photography. I have a Canon Power Shot S3IS which is a fabulous camera...I got it on sale about a year ago at CompUSA for about $375. It is a little larger than some of the small point and shoot cameras but my colleague, Dr. Matthews, recommended it and I needed something that I could use professionally as well as for vacation shots. It was hard for me to give up my beloved 35 mm camera and I do still use it from time to time. As for Caribbean, I don't think buying a camera there is your best bet nor is buying on a ship - if there are sources at home for about the same prices. I wish I could remember the NY source that Patrick uses for most of his camera/photography related purchases. I'll have to ask him. He has used them for many, many years and they are reliable, ethical, and their prices are excellent.
