With all the dining options on ships today, I wondered.....

How do you mix your dining settings/options on a "typical" day on board?

Do you split them between buffets and dinning rooms? .. or room service? Do you all dining room ?

Where do you each your 3 squares a day?( I do realize most have more than 3 meals )

Well, after forty years as a nurse and having to eat in hospital cafeterias, I usually opt for the dining room and being waited on though I will, occasionally, do the buffet. Since we have assigned dinner seating, I like the idea of meeting new folks at breakfast and dinner - I don't "commune" the way you do, Joey!!!!

I will occasionally eat in the fine dining restaurants like Chops and Portofino....on the Radiance last January, Captain Richard took the four "Queens" to dinner at Portofino and that was fabulous.

We like to do both. We typically keep our cruises as informal as possible, so prefer doing the buffet. But we generally like to do the diningroom the first night, in case we really like the people at our table. If they are super folks then we eat mostly in the diningroom, otherwise we'll eat the first night and on the formal nights.... the rest of the time we eat at the buffet or Specialty restaurants. Breakfasts.... hmmm, if we have an early excursion we order breakfast in the cabin, otherwise we do 80% buffet and 20% diningroom per cruise. Lunches we try and eat OFF the ship when in port. We love trying foods of different cultures. If on board we like either a Spa lunch or maybe a Pizza (Princess Pizza's are the best!). On really long cruises, and we have done a few of those, we also have a couple of room service lunches while watching a movie. So we do the "mix and match" thing :) One thing is for sure.... we would NEVER eat every meal in the diningroom.... we just don't enjoy the regimented time frame while cruising.

Now to answer my own question....

Breakfast we have either in the stateroom or Dining Room.. either depending on where we can get eggs benidict...

Lunch time ....we Buffet it..

Dinner.... it's back to the dining room or to a specialty restaurant...

We would like to eat breakfast in the dining room, however we generally don't get up in time so we opt for the buffet. Lunch time is about half and half between buffet and dining room. For diner we only tried one alternate specialty dining room and it was a bust. Most others have been late seating in the traditional dining room. We are on vacation and enjoy being waited on.

We do the buffet for breakfast and lunch most of the time. We do try to get to the dining room for breakfast at least once, but usually never make it. Dinner is almost always in the dining room. We have yet to use one of the specialty restaurants, but we are planning to on our next cruise.

We have never done room service...anywhere. Not on a cruise, not in a hotel. Neither of us like staying in the cabin any more than is necessary. We prefer to wake up, get going and go to the buffet, if we woke up late on a cruise, or the dining room for breakfast if we woke up early.

Lunch, we will usually do the buffet, if we're on board, once in awhile the dining room.

We always try to catch the afternoon tea and/or sushi...depending upon which ship we're on.

Dinner is either a regular dining room, or a specialty restaurant.
