Peddler
We were to sail Sunday 12/09 from Galveston aboard the Carnival Conquest.Due to weather conditions (extreme fog) the Conquest docked late and we didn't embark untill close to 5pm (some as late as 9pm). (We recieved a $15 credit on our sign and sail card as a lunch credit) We were told that if we didn't leave by midnight that we would miss Jamaica due to the distance and the time envolved to reach that port. We left port on Monday close to noon (we were fogged in and the Port Authority had closed the port). By this time we were beyond the window to reach Jamaica so we were issued a $75 pp sign and sail credit for the missed port. We then headed to Grand Caymans with the regular port day of Thursday which would have put us back on schedule. Wednesday afternoon we were advised the a sub-tropical storm was headed for Grand Caymans and was due the same time as us. We could not tender if the winds were above 25 mph so they told us and the decision was made to head for Cozumel for Thursday. In order for us to have two ports, Progreso was added for Friday which was really not a bad port day. Sea day Saturday. Arrived back at Galveston Sunday and was delayed docking for a couple of hours due to high winds. All in all we had a good cruise, Jamaica being missed was no big deal although Caymans would have been nice. We had a wonderful time, met some really nice people, went to Merida from Progreso, shopped at Cozmul and thoughly relaxed. The Conquest was really a nice ship (although showing her miles here and there). The staff was great as was the cusine and entertainment. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, ports or no.
