balfourbob
Hi all I haven't flown in a while + was wondering . If you buy a few bottles of liquor on the ship, do you have to put them in your checked luggage at the airport ?. Can you just check them in the carrier the cruise line provides. How safe are they from being broken or getting lost ? Thanks Bob
zebra
Bob, you take your chances with the airline personnel. And your other option is placing it in your checked on baggage - that too could be a disaster if even one bottle breaks - they don't treat our luggage with respect that's for sure! Honestly I wouldn't chance it! We fly quite a bit and since the new liquid regulations we've chosen not to purchase liquor to bring home anymore. Sad but true! TheSkipper
Jackie, That makes two of us who have elected no to bring back booze anymore. You know my fondest dream for many years was to own a liquer store in St. Thomas. Used to watch them load all the booze purchased ashore by forklift on the ships. Makes me wonder what all these restrictions have done to the sales of liquer in places like St. Thomas?? In addition, it may be my faulty memory, but I think booze has gotten more expensive in the islands as well as what they sell on the ships for us to carry off. It appears to me that the fantastic savings between stateside prices and island and shipboard prices have faded.
RNSANE
I think you really need to know your stateside prices before you go. I still buy liquor, especially if it is something that is very difficult to find in the US, such as pimento liquor from Jamaica or Passoa, a wonderful liquor from Europe that you can find in Puerto Rico ( I also bought it in Jamaica ) but is difficult go get here. I usually carry a couple of sturdy plastic bags and a little bubble wrap with me and wrap bottles in that, then my clothes and put them inside the plastic bags. So far, nothing has broken but I always worry. Booze such as vodka, I usually don't bother with - only something special from an area I visit that I can't easily find at home.
