When you start to plan a cruise.....

Who in your family decides..... when.... what ....where?

Is it discussed or Is it announced!

For us it's a matter of a quick survey to gage enthusiasm for a particular destination.. after analyzing the offered input ..

I make an announcement.... not quiet a dictatorship.. more like a Royal Proclamation...LOL

Definitely a joint venture. We both come up with ideas, then sit down and make our choice. Sometimes we even have a secret ballot: we put down four or five choices, both of us rank the choices (which usually include cruises and land vacations), then compare rankings. There's a good chance that the second choice will result in a future vacation, after we go on our first choice vacation.

In crazy 2007, when one vacation was booked 5 days after I was told I could go on vacation and started 21 days after my vacation approval, while the second was booked 3 days after I was allowed to go on vacation and taken 22 days after approval, we basically called our TA and asked what could be booked quickly. That turned out to be two cruises, in a year when we planned to go on two land vacations instead.

Since it's just me, I make the decision....however, I often find a great deal and put it out to all my forensic nurse colleagues...often ten folks tag along with me. I usually plan the next cruise while I am on board a ship - or while perusing the "hot deals", etc. I've been so many places, the itineraries aren't always so important, it's just that I want to get away and see crew friends.

I used to book the cruises and do the planning, but now that DH is in love with cruising, too, he is joining right in in deciding which ship and which ports, and now he does the booking, and we both do the research.
