Welcome to CruiseCrazies, Countrylady. We were in Alaska in May, and did a tour of Totem Bight Park. It was a very interesting tour. A few years ago, when we cruised Alaska and we just set out on foot and walked through Ketchikan. This, too, was very nice. We were able to get the true flavor of the town that way. Any way you do it, I'm sure will be enjoyable.

Of the ports we went to I would have to say Ketchikan was the ebst one for just doing a walk about. Lots of interesting sights and history and tons of shopping. I really "bought well" in Ketchikan lol. we were booked on the Duck Tour but one of the duck vehicles ran over a passenger (fatally)so all tours were cancelled. It was very sad to be sure. That poor lady's family.

We ended up doing the Totem Bight tour which was actually quite interesting with some very pretty scenery.

And it's great to see you posting!!!!!

Welcome Countrylady!!

We've also been a number of times to Alaska and I must say it's one cruise that you can do plenty just walking from the ship. Of course shopping, sightseeing and lumber jack shows. We went fishing in Ketchikan and must say it was our best ship's excursion ever.... but of course fishing has to be your "thing". You're going to love Alaska!!!

We rented a car and drove to Totem Bight park to tour it, drove to Saxman Village and I would agree that it is an easy town to walk and shop. However, it is also the rain capital of the Inside Passage. So be prepared....and we were there in the middle of August.

Ketchikan is a lovely town. I just enjoyed walking around, eating salmon at a local restaurant and soaking in the ambiance. Didn't even really shop - walked for a couple of hours, between lunch and a couple of drinks in the saloons. I've been there twice...maybe next time, I'll do something different.
