New question of the day:

Which is your primary choice of a cruise - itinerary or ship?

I know that both factor into our choice of the next cruise - but for us it is primarily the itinerary, then we check out all of the ships that do that specific itinerary and from there we choose which ship we prefer. Hey around about now I would like a cruise that goes into the deep blue ocean for 7 days stopping nowhere.... but we all know that's never going to happen!

for us when planning our yearly vacation ...Itinerary normally takes the number one spot.... although I could see us booking because of ship..

so mark us down at: 90% Intinerary , 10 % Ship

Depends on when we're cruising really. In the spring & summer it's usually the ship. If it's a fall cruise, it's the itinerary. With limited time off we don't always have the best choices so we make the best of it.

I think itinerary begins our search, followed by ship, which of course if followed by price. Sometimes a very good deal will influence our decision.

Port of departure first and then itinerary. If we don't have expenses getting to the port, then more than one cruise a year is a good possibility.

Given those two choices, I would have to say itinerary. The choice of ship is important, but not as important as the itinerary.

I realize that port of departure is also a factor - but conversely take Tampa for example... we only have the option to go to the W. Caribbean from here (other than 2 cruises a year for repositioning) - that kind of takes port of departure out of the running, unless one wants to spend the rest of their cruising life visiting Cozumel and Grand Cayman.
