elfed
A short review of our recent trip on the Carnival Miracle. January 26th until February 3rd 2008. The Spirit class ship was spotless, easy to get around with a great crew. The food was very good. Generally the entertainment was very good also. We had reason to use the infirmary –(more about this later) and the medical staff were wonderful. The passengers were from all over the U.S. but Canadians believe or not seemed in the majority. It was a very happy crowd and laughter was everywhere making this a true Fun Ship! Our captain was once again Claudio Cupisti who was in charge of sister ship Legend which we were on in 2004. (I swear the man looked 10 years younger!!!!) My name was drawn out of the hat at the repeat guest party and I received a complimentary dinner for 2 at the lovely supper club Nick and Nora’s. We had already been there with friends a couple of days earlier and I thought the meal was average. So on our 2nd visit I ordered something different and it was marvellous. The very best Filet Mignon I have ever eaten! The highlight of the entertainment was the show Ticket To Ride on the last formal night. A Philippino band called Music Unlimited did a great job of impersonating five of the popular Beatle songs dressed in Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band uniforms. Now to the medical incident. My wife Donna and I took a shore excursion in St. Lucia involving a one hour each way trip on a motor launch to a snorkelling area. The sea was rough-very rough especially on the return journey. Donna vomited and vomited and started shaking violently. When we eventually got to shore she collapsed on the quayside. She suffers from Arythmia of the heart and told me it was out of control. With the aid of other Carnival passengers we managed to carry her onto the Miracle. We had to wait 15 minutes before a nurse showed up but when she did Donna was rushed into the infirmary, wired up and a whole pile of monitors showed her heart rate at 188 beats per minute! It was scary to say the least. Dr. Condon and nurses Marjorie(the doctor’s wife) and nurse Karin were wonderful. The doc: gave Donna electrolytes to replenish the fluid she had lost. Soothing talk and care brought her heart rate back to near normal. E.K.G’s were taken and she was told that she had suffered a panic and anxiety attack after vomiting which drove her heart rate up. She is now fully recovered thank goodness. So huge kudos to the medical staff on the Carnival Miracle. Embarkation was a bit slow But disembarkation went fast and we were off the ship by 9-15 a.m. So apart from the medical incident it was a lovely cruise and a lot of fun. rogue
I'm glad you enjoyed the cruise, James, but I'm sorry to hear about Donna's episode. I'm sure that it was quite frightening. I'm glad that it ended well. We have never needed medical assistance on a cruise, so I'm happy to hear that you had a good experience. You never know when you may need them. I love the Spirit Class ships. They are the best laid out ships I've been on. I would go back on one of them in a minute. Thanks for sharing the nice review.
