JoeyandDavid
Okay: Gotta clarify on the credit card. Our credit card is linked with a local credit union. We have been with the credit union for over 30 years. Same folks; they know us (by name) and know that we hardly ever use the credit card (except when travelling). So, I let them know when we're travelling. I guess it's part of the customer service that we still have. we do too I don't blame you...nothing worse being off somewhere and can't access your credit line.. whether you are in Ville franche France or Bakersfield CA a problem with a credit card because of "unusual " behavior ain't worth it.... My personal rule of thumb... if I am more than 100 miles or will be staying at a hotel.. i call them... heck it's my credit report... zebra
We always notify the CC companies when we're traveling out of the country - Africa or cruising but I must tell you something funny, not related to cruising. As many of you know we traveled for 13 months around the USA in our motor home, which included spending the entire summer in Alaska. Well I notified both our CC companies of the days we'd be traveling through Canada and then to Alaska, at the time we weren't sure when we would be leaving Alaska. Well...... after spending 4 months in Alaska we were driving back down to the lower 48. We stopped in Prince George Canada to fill up the motor home (trust me you have to sell your first born to fill up the tank of this huge vehicle.) We filled up and then swiped the card, well it was denied. So we both went into the gas station to speak with the manager. I said this can't be right, knowing we had the funds. So we tried our other credit card. Guess what! Same result. So I called the 800 number on the back of the card, to find out that VISA had put a hold on both of our cards because we hadn't notified them of our return dates through Canada!!! I was impressed with the efficiency, the gas station manager was relieved that they were going to get paid and we were extremely relieved that we wouldn't have to donate our "services" to pay for the couple of hundred dollars gas that we had already pumped into our rig. Whew!!!!!
hazelson
We check it a couple of days in - then the last night before the "final" is stuck in the door slot. We do let our credit card company know - just so they don't put a stop on the account. It happened in the past when we travelled - that was a pain but it was good they were concerned. TheSkipper
On the most recent cruise, Roe could check daily via the TV set in the stateroom, and she did. But then she checks all our bank accounts, brokerage accounts, IRA's etc. daily when she is at home. Went on line once aboard the ship to check all our accounts. Yes, we do notify our credit card companies when we are traveling overseas.
cruisetarp
I also check every couple of days and keep all my receipts in one folder in the vanity drawer. Sure don't want to wait til the last day to find any suprises. We also notify our credit card company when we will be traveling. Many years ago we had our card denied when they saw unusual activity on it. They did it for our protection but it sure was embarrassing.
