deb1220
What sticks out in my mind the most is....the friendly, open and welcoming people on the ship - both passengers and crew. I had a preconceived notion of people that went on cruises were "stuffy" and "snobby", so I was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong. It is quite the opposite . KeithnRita
Todays Question: Thinking back to your first cruise, What do you remember most? Sleeping until three the next afternoon after our first night aboard ship.

JoeyandDavid
Todays Question: Thinking back to your first cruise, What do you remember most? (This answer is for Mary Lou) How they pushed the liquor.. I was amazed some of those servers were very aggressive... it was a short 4 nighter.. we have since realized that a four nighter weekend cruise was a party ship.... who would have known! hazelson
I remember the sail away - I couldn't beleive how smooth the ocean was - until that night when we experienced some super swells. It amazed me that I was seasick (yeah patch).
cruisetarp
Thanks Joey - We are rarely on board more than 10 minutes before we are approached with someone selling the drink of the day. I'm sure the shorter cruisers are full of more party people. When I think back on my first cruise I have so many memories. My first cruise was the year after I graduated from high school with my two best friends. I remember the service and friendliness of the crew and their desire to please. I remember our deck attendant. Every passenger was assigned a numbered deck chair and the attendant would move it around for you all day long - in the sun, in the shade, wherever you wanted. (No problem with chair hogs there) I remember the white gloved waiters serving dinner from large domed trays and coming around with seconds and thirds. Everyone was very dressed up - ladies in dresses and men in jackets and ties every night. The dining room was the only place to eat so you had no choice - follow the dress code or don't come. Breakfast & Lunch were served at your assigned tables. No casino on the ship but big production shows each night. Every lounge on the ship had a dance band playing every night. Most of all I remember being terrified to walk down a flight of steps suspended from the side of the ship to get on the tender to go into Nassau (with no Paradise Island or Atlantis.) Simply the straw-market to walk around in until you were brave enough to get back on the tender. I guess the thing I remember most though as a teenager away from home for the first time were the Italian crew who once their shift was over were free to join the guests in the lounges and the bars. Those were the golden days of cruising. I have to go now and dig out my scrapbook from that very first cruise.

kmills
Being in the bat cave and how dark it really was. We did not take a clock and never knew what time it was. Also, the first night out how rough it was and how sick I was, I vowed not to take another cruise. The couple that we set with a dinner was going to get off in Freeport if it did not calm down and he worked in the middle of the ocean on well rigs and it was her 6th time on the Fantasy. I was just a little scared. But it did calm down and the rest of the cruise was wonderful and here I am anticipating my third cruise.
