I just realized that with the new dress policy of smart and casual nights (10 of those) and (3)formal nights we really have no need for a suit or sport coat, or ties....

But we will take one for specialty dinning... Here is a question for the other men..will you be wearing a jacket when dining in the specialty resturant..(if you want i will wait while you run and ask your spouse)

Sorry I haven't checked in over the weekend. My newest granddaughter was christened over the weekend and we had a big family get-together yesterday. It is a long story, but 13 years ago, a year out of college, she was diagnosed with leukemia, and underwent four bouts of chemo. She survived, but was told she'd never have children. She now works as a blood drive marketing director of Red Cross in Virginia, met someone she went to HS with, and got married. Surprise! She just had a little girl.

Welcome Paula! Looking forward to meeting you.

Karen is like Judson and his spouse. She would have looked at home in the Titantic era with trunks full of shoes. Tough to get her to hold it to 2 large bags and a carryon. She plans clothes weeks in advance, and jewelry. I pack the night before we leave.

No real budgeting here. We don't do a lot of excursions, just take out on our own normally. I like to snorkel and Karen likes the sun but doesn't swim.

I don't normally dress for the specialty restaurant, just the resort casual style every night except on formal nights. Karen on the other hand likes to dress up for dinner every night. Has to have some way to use all those pairs of shoes. I think she studied under Imelda Marcos.

John - congratulations on the new granddaughter. What a great story. Glad everyone is now well.

Joey - for some reason Jim insists on wearing his blazer when he boards the ship, so he will have that with him. Whether he will wear it to dinner or not would completely depend on his mood at the time.

at least he will be prepared... as I am sure many others will be .. But MaryLou I am coming to the realization that in fact we are at the end of the era ...completely at the end... and now with the economy tanking and the cruise lines beginning to bend the more stringent rules more and more in an effort to fill the ships.. and i must say I think that goes to all levels of cruising except for maybe the people that sail on the World! ( they may be exempt.. but no guarantees ).....as I tell david... and he tells me...we dress for us first and foremost...what others do..others do.. but WE ...are Brecker-Richardson's

I think that is what Jim is stuck on. When we began cruising men boarded the ship with dress slacks and jacket and ladies wore dresses sporting the mandatory corsage. Men dressed in a jacket & tie every night for dinner and you never saw a lady in slacks in the dining room. Those days are long gone but he still insists on wearing his blazer when he boards the ship. I do agree with you that with things the way there are right now the cruise lines will be more lax with the rules. I know we are in the minority but we will miss the olden days
