TheSkipper
We have done it both ways. Now that many of the doors are tied into the AC system, we have found that the AC is more important than the smell and sounds of the ocean.
Suzila
We keep the door closed. Neither of us can sleep with the 'noise' of the ocean. However, I like to have the drapes open, and have the sunshine shine in the morning to wake me up. Hubby likes to have the drapes closed. And, as far as the air-conditioning goes...believe it or not, we both prefer to have the HEAT on at night. (not 'hot', just not 'cold') Even when we were in Hawaii or Mexico, we used the heater, not the air-conditioning.
cruisetarp
I love to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. Jim needs the AC going full blast, so he generally waits til I'm asleep and then closes the slider and puts on the AC. I also like to leave the drapes open on port days - the sun wakes me up before our breakfast is delivered.
zebra
Us Floridians can't live without the AC - it's an integral part of our lives, so we keep the door closed, but we like to lie out on the balcony and listen to the wake during the day..... it's easy to drift off to sleep. DebbieandJerry
We prefer utter darkness for night time sleeping, which means the door is closed. But, we can sleep with the drapes open and door open during our "daytime naps". Neither of us have any problems falling asleep anywhere. For "connecting balconies" and/or "connecting rooms", Marcy and I know that if the other person's sliding door is unlocked and/or open, then it's clear to go in to that room. Sure do love those balcony rooms.
MarcyandJames
We have to have the door closed. coming from 110 degree weather in Tucson, we are not used to the humid air. Tucson's heat is very dry, so we enjoy the AC
deb1220
We have done both, depending on the humidity. If it's not too bad we leave it open. I prefer fresh air to AC but if the fresh air is too hot and humid the AC comes on!!! I also like to keep the drapes open and have the sunrise wake me up "naturally" ! lashl
Have never tried sleeping with the door open but do like to have the drapes open. During the day a quick nap on the balcony is a must for late night activities. Just sitting on the balcony and listening to the waves puts me to sleep real quick! Joanandjoe
We've only had a balcony twice, and it never occurred to us that we could leave the door open. For the Canada/New England cruise, it would have been too cold anyway. Since our next balcony will be in Alaska, trying the open door policy is unlikely. rogue
Next question: Do you wake up early to watch the ship pull into a new port?
