Sarge6870
Joe and Joan suggested this Question for today.. so .,..... Todays Question: Do you let your credit card company know that you are traveling both domestically and internationally? We always do. Since we usually use only our bank debit card, we wouldn't want them to stop our access to the account mid-cruise.
TheSkipper
Domestic, no. International, yes.
hazelson
DH and I had a discussion about this - and we both agree - nothing will change. It's a luxury that will just cost a bit more :o) But we figure we have both worked hard and been through a lot - so we are worth it LOL Skipper - will do! 55ChevyLady
Todays Question : Todays question was supplied by one of our members who PM's me.. Will the increase in fuel charges, both in the airline and cruise industries, cause you to rethink how, when, and what you may book as your future vacations?? Yes, it will to us, we are more middle of the road people ...our next cruise is paid for but we still have to get there and WHO knows what gas will cost then!!. We wanted to stay over a few days in Galveston and have reservations to do so but will have to see what the economy dictates next Jan. With air fare now there is no way my family could fly anywhere to cruise so we are limited to Galveston for a port...I would have liked to have sailed on a ship out of FL. but that is a long drive. For us we want to cruise now that we have found cruising. But it is going to be harder to go as often as I wanted to and I am going to have to bargain hunt for better rates in the future... for the cruise in Jan that we are taking the girls we got connecting cabins so they would have there own cabin, course that cost double...but I didn't think I wanted 4 of us crammed in one cabin... But we all do what it takes to do what we want to do...If I wanted a new car - then I would save for a new car...instead I want to cruise...So it just depends on what your priorities are I think... It has affected our plans to cruise Europe next year. Probably won't be able to touch the airfare so that my cancel my 25th anniversary plans. Guess I'll have to celebrate on the Connie. JoeyandDavid
one of the first things i do when planning a vacation if it is to be more than 500 miles away is to check airfare....Once i have that information I can then make a decision as to whether proceed or not.. once a decision to go is made I almost immediately buy air...so far the only air fare yet to buy will be for the Connie..and if things go the way I hope that will be courtesy of Frequent Air.. Fuel charges alone will not dictate our plans but major increases in air fare may....
MarcyandJames
I agree with Joey, fuel charges won't dictate our plans, but higher airfares will.
cruisetarp
I don't see it affecting our cruising other than we may be cruising from closer to home to save on costs getting to the ship. Even with the fuel charges now I still think dollar for dollar crusing is the best vacation deal around.
rogue
I certainly hope not, but with the rising costs of air travel, it may. Flying to Europe with four people next year may just take that away from us.
PATJUD
At the moment, the cruising fuel charges seem small when you look at them on a daily basis. However - if you look at a cruise like the 13 day one that our group is doing in November of 2009 - if the charges remain as they are today - that's an additional $208.00 added to the cruise. I think this cruise is locked in for those that have already booked. We got a refund from Carnival when they increased the fuel charge on a cruise that had been booked before they came up with the fuel charge. Some airlines are now charging for each checked bag. I have air purchased for our Alaska cruise this September. However - I'm concerned about the flight cost from Atlanta to Miami for the 2009 "Constellation" cruise and I know those of you coming from further away will be paying more. Flying in and out of Atlanta is higher than one would imagine - I don't know why but it is. I'm going to try and purchase air for this trip as soon as it's available. I really think that the air fares are going to be the deal breakers for vacations.
