Joanandjoe
Air Canada is an OK airline, nothing particularly good or bad. On the flights we've had -- most recently NYC to Montral 3 years ago -- they used small commuter planes, so it wasn't all that comfortable. However, for a flight of under 1 hour, it wasn't too bad. Our first ever flight on Alaska Air will be next Monday, as we fly to Vancouver for our cruise. Are you going to Vancouver for a "land trip" or a cruise? Joe this is for our Mercury cruise in October.. Vancouver to San Diego... we will take Amtrak back to LA from SD.. we just need to get to Vancouver in a nice timely fashion... Look forward to your return to your thoughts on Alaska Air... Back years ago .. David said he loved them when he used to fly frequently between LAX and SEA but that was quite a few years ago.. zebra
We have flown both. Alaska Air was great, we flew from Seattle to Fairbanks. Air Canada we flew from NY to Ottawa in one of those small planes, about 20 people... I don't like small plane in general, so our experience wouldn't be a fair evaluation. rogue
We flew Air Canada from Toronto to Vancouver for our 1st Alaska cruise, and they were fine. Our luggage didn't make it on our flight, but I really can't blame them. Princess booked the flights, and we had to sprint to catch the flight. I knew that our luggage wouldn't make it. Since there was a flight from Toronto to Vancouver about every hour, I wasn't too worried (came in on the next flight). We took Alaska Air from Fairbanks to Seattle on our return flight. They left over one hour late, and we just made the connection to Philly. We thought that we would have lots of time, but as it turned out, we had to run to catch that flight also. The flights themselves were nothing special. For me, flying is flying, a necessary evil.

Dan
Air Canada has been refurbishing their fleet the last couple of years and is supposed to have them all done by this summer. All new seats and tv's at every seat.
hazelson
We have always enjoyed Alaska Airlines - they have a great on-time record and the service staff are excellent.
elfed
Well as a soon to be retired Air Canada mechanic, I would fly them as I know their maintenance is top notch!!! However if I had the time I would travel Amtrack on the Coast Starlight out of Seattle. There is a bus service out of Canada to the Amtrack station. Far more of an enjoyable start to your holiday than crowded airports and cramped airplanes. Regards, James.
