JoeyandDavid
We are booked on our first Holiday cruise ever this December .. I had always been under the impression that these voyages tend to sell out quickly.... This cruise howevere is selling it seems to me extremely slowly .. Historically I mean... do holiday cruises from your observations sell fast or slow....or .......is it "the economy, stupid"

sailingrose
Joey I've done many holiday cruises and usually the best cabins are snapped up and by now you get what's left. I think your San Juan departure definately is a factor. We find more kids on these sailings but the airfare may slow that down. I'm looking for a New Years sailing but the prices are pretty high! JoeyandDavid
so for it to be selling this slowly is unusal???
TheSkipper
Joey, I have nothing to back this up, but I think San Juan and air fares combined are the factors that have slowed it down. In addition, prices are higher for Holiday sailings on most if not all cruiselines. As someone else said there are typically lots of kids on Holiday sailings, and I can confirm that from personal experiences, but, getting an entire family to San Juan would have to cost a ton!! sailingrose
so for it to be selling this slowly is unusal??? I agree with Ed not for a San Juan sailing.........the airfare would stop me from doing that one. Even though gas is expensive it's still cheaper to drive for me. JoeyandDavid
thanks Ed.. great points as always... it may be that we cruise well below capacity... it could also mean that we may get a price reduction..
DebbieandJerry
We've cruised over Thanksgiving 2007 (not realizing that when we booked the cruise). Flights back home over Thanksgiving weekend were tough - cost wise and cancellation wise. Airlines were trying to fill the planes and weren't successful. Every time we turned around, there was another email telling us that such and such flight had been changed. Boiled down to more than a 4-hour layoff in Dallas' airport. December 2005 we completed a cruise by the 17th. The ship had already begun decorating of Xmas. Trees and bulbs all over the place. Very beautiful. So, no matter what the reason, enjoy the fact that you're getting a gonga deal, going on vacation, and getting away over the holidays. They are too stressful as it is.
