kmills
We usually go for the stateroom we want. Especially on our up coming cruise when we have 22 couples going and we are all on the floor. I don't think they would up grade all of us.
rogue
We usually book a specific cabin and don't want to be upgraded. We were upgraded on our 1st cruise from OV to balcony, and it has cost me lots of money through the years because Cindy will not cruise without a balcony. I would hate to be upgraded to an Owner's Suite...
becktours
I like to pick my cabin, especially since we always need two next to each other, due to large family! However, an upgrade to a family suite would be ok!

Joanandjoe
The only times we've ever booked a "guarantee" was when specific rooms were not available at the time of booking. We were upgraded once, from a room that was too close to the engines to a nicer outside room. The problem with upgrades is that they're not always an improvement. For example, I'd rather have a carefully chosen room than a room in a higher category that's under or over a noisy locale such as the showroom. teacp
We always pick an aft balcony so we don't want or need any upgrades.................unless of course it is an owners suite............like that is going to happen
lashl
We have had upgrades on three cruises. In each case we paid for the "cheapest" balcony room and where up graded to the hightest room. In each case booke almost 12 months ahead, direct through Carnival. Those were our early cruises so sometimes being stupid is an advantage. The last four booking have been for a specific room/suite. Shifra
For me part of the fun of booking a cruise is picking a cabin. On my 3rd cruise I had my first balcony cabin, that did it for the rest of my cruises. Love my balcony! Since I'm a bit of a control freak I like selecting my own cabin with no upgrades. However............. On one of my HAL cruises I got a huge surprise . I had booked a wonderful aft cabin, when I checked in at the pier & got my boarding pass I noticed that it had a different cabin #. I questioned the clerk and told her I liked my cabin and didn't want to give it up. How could they do this? She smiled and said don't worry this cabin is just as nice. On most HAL ships a steward escorts you to your cabin, so we followed the steward and he led us to our new home for the next 7 days. A beautiful aft Suite including all suite ammenities, and I do mean all. As an added bonus we had a huge, HUGE balcony. I was lucky this happened but I still feel strongly about what cabin I book. sailingrose
I pick the cabin and stick with it. Sometimes an upgrade isn't an upgrade like Ed said.......We have been upgraded twice many, many cruises ago and neither one was a good one
