hazelson
If you have to cancel a cruise - before you pay the full fare, does the TA who has helped you get it all together get anything at all from the cruise line or is she just out of luck. With my recent health issues it could happen - if that is the case and the TA gets nothing - how does anyone handle that. Offer a gift or cash??? Offer a gift or cash??? I certainly hope it doesn't.. Jenn I would say depending on your relationship with your TA.. Your booking agreement should let you know if there is a fee to cancel.. I personally believe it's a cost of doing business.. some factor in a "fee" and that is retained by the agent if canceled once booked.. I find the successful TA's will waive that charge ..especially if you are a repeat customer.. JMHO (and I have been wrong before!!)
KeithnRita
When we decided to build our house we had a cruise booked on the Glory for mid-Sept. Since that was the target date for our move we canceled about a month before final payment was due. We told our TA to charge us a fee to cover her time and she told us NONSENSE! She said the cruise line does not charge and neither would she. She does get all our cruise business and we've sent her clients. We will keep our fingers crossed for you on not having to cancel! Too many things can go wrong at the last minute and I would be out everything.

cruisetarp
Jenn - I hope you will be able to make it on your cruise but your TA should not be out anything if you do have to cancel. I'm sure they run into problems like this more often than we think. Hopefully, all will be well by September.
KeithnRita
Jennifer, We missed a lot in our absence form this forum and just read about your health problems. So sorry to hear. Rest assured you have our prayers and support to GET WELL SOON!
Joanandjoe
I hope your health problems clear up; and that, in any event, you have insurance. We've had to cancel one cruise in 2001 due to a kidney stone, and had another last December that we probably should have cancelled (4 days after my appendectomy). When a cruise is cancelled, the TA gets nothing. A few agencies, mostly online, indicate that they have a cancellation fee. Most TAs do not. Our TAs (a husband-wife team) did not accept cash or a gift. Instead, we made sure that we booked our next cruise with them. We probably would still be using them; but they're semi-retired, and only do group cruises now.
lashl
Jenn....I spent 18 years as a straight commission salesperson and on many occasions I did a lot of work and never made a dime. It's part of doing business. Your TA will get more good PR by not charging you a cancellation fee. I had job changes all the time and never charged a restocking fee. Guess what, they would buy from me the next time because I took care of them.
