Beginning on all cruises which depart on or after August 1, 2008, the following evening wear planner applies:

Smart Casual and Above

Ladies: Skirt or pants complemented by sweater or blouse.

Gentlemen: Pants or jeans (no holes, rips or tears) with sports shirt or sweater. Shirts must have sleeves.

Note: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant at any time. Shorts and flip flops are not allowed in the evening hours.

Formal

Ladies: Cocktail dress, gown or dressy pantsuit

Gentlemen: Tuxedo, suit or dinner jacket with slacks

These are the changes Celebrity has implemented regarding dress codes for sailing after August 1, 2008 how do you feel about it?

No matter what your position If you are a celebrity fan and want to express your feelings directly to Royal Caribbean / Celebrity then please take the time to let them know... and if you are a share holder NOW would be a good time to speak up!

For email concerns about the dress code changes send them to:

web_cruise_comments @ rccl.com (of course tighten up any spaces... like after the s in "comments" and after the @)

Then if you are inclined to send a formal letter those are snail mailed to :

Celebrity

As I've expressed before I don't like it at all. I'll be sending my thoughts off to them. One of the things that I always thought seperated Celebrity from some of the other lines was the evening dress code when cruisers stayed dressed in the recommended dress for the evening.

Thanks for the address Joey.

My answer may surprise you, given my stated dislike of wearing a tuxedo. However, I'd rather buy and wear a tuxedo than see my fellow diners wearing jeans to dinner. YUCK! The definition of formal is OK, but the definition of smart casual is casual but not smart. I don't like it one bit; but X is simply following the lead of other mainstream cruise lines in "relaxing" the dress codes.

Sad as it may seem to us not-quite old codgers, young people generally don't like to dress up. That's why most of us no longer wear suits to work--the dress codes were changed to attract younger workers. The cruise lines are trying to attract a younger audience, and dumbing down the dress codes is part of that effort. A bad effort as far as I'm concerned.

That shouldn't stop you from wearing your tux if you want to do so.

Amen Marylou!

We don't like it either, however we are not to surprised. On our last couple of Celebrity cruises we saw increasing violations of the dress code, with no enforcement. HAL will probably be next.
