coloradocruisers
I have a confession to make, Joey. Lean in to your computer closely, because I don't want to say it too loudly on this forum. I'm one of those guys who doesn't want to wear a tux in the tropics. I generally wear a sports coat and a nice shirt. I did rent a tux for Alaska, but that place was nice and cool. Like me. I think the cruise lines are reacting to guys like me. Sorry, but there's alot more of us out there. Kevin
sailinglisa
In my 17 cruises, I have NEVER worn a gown on formal nights. I have worn nice lacy tea length dresses in the past. If I can ever get my feet to fit into regular shoes again, I might do it again. What I wear for formal night is usually a pair of dressy black slacks and a sparkly top. I have NEVER felt out of place. I really hated the "informal" nights on Celebrity.........had to pack an extra set or two of clothes to fill that requirement. Most lines have eliminated informal long ago. The only thing I see different in Celebrity's new dress code is that informal night is now (finally) gone, and "nice" jeans are now acceptable on casual nights. I don't wear jeans, but I do wear capri sets on casual nights and think those are just fine. I have NEVER been turned away from the dining room. Now, if someone wore the wife beater shirt and torn jeans........thrown them overboard!
TheSkipper
Most of the upscale lines are going this way also. Azamara is strictly "country club casual." First time I have not taken a tux on a cruise. Did take a sport coat however.

Ed if you would, please compare country club casual to what celebrity is calling for in it's new casual definition.. are they the same? jbond
I hope that they never do away with formal night, for us it's a major reason we cruise. I'm disappointed that they are abandoning Informal/semi formal on most lines. It won't stop me from taking a suit however. I have no problem with jeans in the dining room on casual nights, I think the lines are beginning to be a little more flexible, but don't do away with formal. Where else can you get a family portrait set in such a classy environment?

sailingrose
Great Picture! One of our favorites is my parents 50th anniversary cruise with all 12 of us. Nothing like a formal portrait for a special occasion. I got the same stock response you got Marylou! We'll all just have to wait and see how this plays out. I have only worn jeans once to dinner but that was the 1st night when I didn't have luggage. Felt wierd! Howie doesn't have a tux, just a black suit good for all occasions. He may rent one for our trip on the Connie as that will probably be our 25th anniversary cruise since we may not be able to take another vacation in August. Joey the last wedding we went to here some guests showed up in jeans! Yes, Florida is less formal but jeans at a wedding is a no no to me. zebra
I love the people on Crazies!!! We can happily agree or disagree without rude, confrontational replies - just live happily side by side. I don't want to sound redundant .... so I'll say that I totally agree with every thing sailinglisa said.... that's pretty much our dress code. I love seeing a guy in a Tux and Tony obliged once, but then decided that his expensive black suit was just as good, so that's what he wears. I, like Lisa enjoy wearing long black pants with glitzy tops...... I don't wear gowns. The other evenings it pretty capri's and tops and Tony would wear a sports jacket on informal evenings. Now we don't have pack this extra requirement - just a suit and then Docker's for casual evenings. Joey..... I agree there are many land based vacations that are very "top notch" but heck I would miss the movement of the ship, the blue seas, oh yes and the BINGO ..... I can't imagine voluntarily giving up cruising.
