agentjoey
Need your opinion. I have been on cruises and have seen children of various ages. I have even taken my daughter. She went on her first cruise when she was 7 years old. She is a very calm and mature girl (now 8 years old) I had no concerns taking her on a cruise. But I also have a son who will be 4 when we are thinking about taking our next cruise. He is very active and loves to climb like most boys do. I have a lot of confindence in the cruise lines kids programs but I do have some concerns about taking him aboard a ship. I have no one who can watch him for a week or so. Am I over concerned? What would you guys do?

As long as he has the ability to listen and comply with instructions I don't see a problem...
hazelson
Agentjoey - I think I would be most concerned with the "loves to climb" thing....especially near the railings. That would worry me - but then - we Moms worry about everything :o)
DebbieandJerry
Carnival seems to be a very child friendly ship. We enjoy going to their Kid Talent Shows. They offer lots for the kids to do. There were many nights where the children had special meals with themes. They have various "discos" that are age separated for evening activities. And, they have a great game room. I, personally, do not have problems with children on cruises. I find their excitement very contagious.
becktours
Your son would love the kids room in the Emerald Princess. They have a small rock climbing wall for the 3-6 year olds!!! We took my 2 year old in the play room and sat while he played!! He had a fantastic time.
coloradocruisers
Agentjoey: You didn't say which line you are going on, but I've taken small children on the Disney, Princess, and Carnival lines; and have found all of them to have fine children's programs. The kids have always been well supervised in a very controlled environment. As a precaution, I would take him to the railing before sailaway, and impress on him that he is not to climb on the rails. Do you have a deck? If so, the rule should be that he is only allowed to go out with an adult. I'm sure your daughter is very mature, but my kids always mind me better than an older sibling.
