I have been to this resort 3 times. It is right in forest on the Kenai Peninsula. This is Alaska folks..... think National Park surroundings, everything is natural and we are in their habitat. I am dreadfully sorry to hear her story, and glad that the tourist had the presence of mind to chase it off her, but the strangest thing is that Tony and I walked that trail at night as well and we both commented that we should be doing this at night... we are right in bear territory and they are in frenzied feeding mode right now before they have to go back into hibernation.
