hazelson
Shaunna - I thought that was a very good question. I would think there would not be a charge for anything motion or food related.....that the ship could be responsible for. But the other stuff - like spraining an ankle or breaking something would probably cost a bit! We have been fortunate so far - but we are aging fast :o)
PATJUD
We had to use it once. We were on a Caribbean cruise but sailing in the Atlantic. The water was rough and people were having a difficult time. Louise did fall face forward and fractured a bone in her right wrist as well as a bone in her left knee. Now - before anything is said - there were never any thoughts about sueing the cruise line. The weather was not good and we all knew it so the fall was not the fault of the cruise line. Anyway - Staff was there immediately with a wheel chair and took us immediately to the infirmary where excellent treatment and care was given. I have no complaints at all about the assistance they gave. There was no charge at all. Fortunately - it happened a day before the cruise ended rather than at the beginning. So - for about 8 weeks, Louise was in a cast on her wrist and leg - jeeeeeesh - that was really the rough part - especially for her as well as the caregiver - ME - LOL!!! Suzila
Personally, I have not had to use the infirmary, however, I took a girl down there whom I didn't even know. When we went on our Super Bowl cruise last year, we were all waiting outside the theater for the doors to open and to find the best seats to see the game. There was a girl in her 20's standing next to me, and when they opened the doors, she ran in. However, there was a mirrored wall in the theater, and she thought it was the way in to the seats. She banged into the mirror really hard, and almost fainted. She had an immediate bulge on her forehead, and had hit her nose. We all sat down, and everyone in her party was joking, but I turned around to her and asked her if I could take her down to the infirmary. She thanked me, because you could see she wasn't feeling well, and we went. They had her stay down there for awhile, she was shaking by that time, and i stayed with her. She was so grateful, and I felt so bad for her. She was really bruised up, but thankfully hadn't broken anything. Later we were both able to go back to the game. TheSkipper
Roe would kill me if she knew I was posting this!! On our Honeymoon Cruise, I had a prostate attack and ended up flying home with a catheter inserted and a bag strapped to my leg.!! Yes there were considerable charges, but all was reembursed by our health insurance. However with the pain I was in I'd have paid anything! I've always blamed Roe. Tell friends she was just like all my kids. Give her a new toy and she breaks it!!!! Had surgery a couple of days after I returned home, but it was a trip I'll never forget. Joanandjoe
On our one night cruise to Grand Bahama in 1971, our taxis got into an accident, and Joan hurt her leg (luckilu a sprain, not a break). Both the Bahamas hospital and the ship charged us, but she received no real care: nothing at all at the hospital, painkillers at the ship. The experience had a lot to do with our never again going to the Bahamas, and not trying a real cruise for 27 years, until 1998. Since we've started cruising in 1998, we've occasioimally had to go the the infimary for headache or sea sickness remedies, but not for anything serious. No charge for seasick pills.
