Today's question is a rare post by Joan, so I think I (Joe) will put in my two cents. Normally, the main way we decompress is to plan our next vacation. Unfortunately, in 2007 and 2008, that has been very difficult. Two of our three vacations were done on three weeks notice: we left for vacation three weeks after I was given permission to go on vacation. The third was booked nine months in advance, and was nearly cancelled. Right now I'm back in the "not allowed to take vacation" category, so we can't plan anything. Howard's solution doesn't work when you don't know when or where you'll be able to go on vacation again.

Joan is more upbeat than me. My question would have been "how do you keep from going nuts when you're not allowed to plan a vacation?"

Joe: Your problem will eventually be solved by retirement, right? I believe you said on another thread that you're counting down the days, somewhere around 2 1/2 years to go.

For me, it's going to be a while longer. So we have to make the most out of each cruise. We tend to take alot of pictures. Sharon's into scrapbooking, and I try to help. That's the best thing for us -- just to relive our cruise over and over again through photos. We're kind of on a three-year cruise cycle. Wish we could go more often, but with five people, it can get costly. I have found that when we have one booked, even if it's a year away, it can make the daily gripes seem less troubling.

Kevin - i have to agree with you...we take pictures, relive the cruise , tell all our friends about it until they are sick of hear us talk about it LOL, and look forward to the next one.

Also, retirement for us is at least 20 years away. There is 4 of us so as much as we would like to cruise longer and more often it does get costly...plus, like you we are not exactly near a port but closer than you.

Another factor I have to contend with is when I have anything planned for my family my plans can change at a moments notice. Yes, I have a cruise booked for Jan. and a hotel for 3 days after in Galveston. Doesn't mean it will happen. I didn't know until the week of my last cruise I could go. Doesn't bother me. That is just the way it is.

People sure learn to stay away from cruise crazy people don't they LOL --- especially right before or right after a cruise lol.

Jenn - this is how my friends started treating me when I wanted to talk to them, and you know what about about...lalalalalalala.gif

but hey...it was my first cruise! I was hooked! what could they except... :cool2: ...I wanted to recruit everybody to the wonderful world of cruising! and then I found CruiseCrazies so now I have a "sane" outlet...yeah, right! LOL

and BTW...does anybody know what time it is? my power blinked off a bit ago then came right back but all my clocks are still flashing...so I think it is 5:00 at least! TEE HEE! KEVIN! That is for You Good Buddy! Cheers!

C'mon, everyone, it's time for another question of the day. Does anyone have a good one?

Yes, Joe. I have one.

Has anybody ever gotten reeeeally lucky on a cruise (I'm talking about the casinos). I won $150 on the first night during my last cruise, then avoided the casinos after that on the theory that the machines were looser on night one.

But are there any high rollers out there?
