JoeyandDavid
I was remebering how often we book cruises to commemorate a special occasions. When we first started cruising it was a way to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries .. twice a year April and October...we got away somewhere on the ocean. We now book more for just the pure pleasure of getting away.. When you book your cruises are they just get ways or do you try and book to celebrate a personal event? sailingrose
A mix of both........usually cruise in August for our anniversary and on occasion we cruise for a birthday or holiday but mostly it's when I need a break from regular life. jacketwatch
For us its an annual vacation for family time together. The time of the cruise depends on when we can all get off at the same time. As BD's for my son and I are in Oct. cruising for that is usually not in the picture. Now my sons jobs dicates when he can go. He works on a TV show which takes a hiatus from late Nov. until March so now we plan around that. We also have had cruise companions the last two yrs. and he sort of depends on me for the leg work which I don't mind at all really. He just loves being at sea so its fine with me to ehlp that along and our wives get along well too. The funny thing is that they really want to be sure our son goes. He is very sociable and despite the age differences (Jay is 26, Shree is 65) they enjoy each others company though Jay has his own company in the wee hrs. while we are fast asleep. I remember those days.
cruisingcats
Our first cruise was to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. The next one is just to be cruising.
cruisetarp
When we began cruising we usually booked for either my birthday (July) or our Anniversary (September). At the time we started, cruising from New York was seasonal - from May til October. There was no winter cruising. Now that we have year round cruses from the NY area we generally try to sail in April and October (once the kids are back in school and the ships are a bit quieter)
jbond
They are basically just get aways, but we have sailed to celebrate our 40th and 50th wedding anniversaries and both our grandkids high school graduations.
rogue
We cruise for the sake of cruising, but frequently, an occasion falls somewhere in the cruise. On our next cruise, we will be celebrating our 29th anniversary, but that's not why we booked it then. It's a repo cruise, and we couldn't turn down the price. zebra
Mostly getaways for us - also dictated by work circumstances. Generally we can't cruise Jan - April 15 because of Tax Season, although one year we did sneak away for a short 3 day cruise on the Disney Wonder for our Anniversary in February. As luck would have it we have cruised many times over Tony's birthday.... which of course is today!
deb1220
Most of the time it's just a convenient time to go. Last Feb., 2007 it was to celebrate our son's HS graduation.
