And I am so sad to be home! The only good thing is that my bed felt soooo good last night......the mattresses on Princess are hard. That is my one and only complaint about this cruise. It was sheer heaven! One of my top three so far, and when I am rested and have my photos (all 750 of them) uploaded and sorted, then I will write a review. Let's say that I am so sad that the Dawn is leaving North America and heading down under........she is a great ship with a great crew. I wanted to stay on the ship as she headed from San Francisco to Sydney.....a 31 day transpacific cruise.

This was a 10 day cruise to Alaska roundtrip out of San Francisco.......one of the last ships up in Alaska for the season. Lots of great sales at the stores that were open (over half were alread closed in Skagway). Tracy Arm was THE highlight of the cruise.........I will explain more in our review, but I will say that the Dawn was the largest ship ever to get 1/2 mile from North Sawyer Glacier - the glacier most people see in Tracy Arm is South Sawyer Glacier. Our Captain was fantastic!

If anyone has a question, please ask!

Welcome home Lisa. I know EXACTLY how you feel, we did the same cruise many years ago on the Ocean Princess (now sold) sister to the Dawn and we were also taken right up close and personal to the North Sawyer GLacier ...... a total highlight of our trip!! Funnily enough we also did the last sailing of the season, had outstanding weather and enjoyed all the sales in the stores in Alaska, as well as the sales onboard as they were trying to sell off all the "Alaska" stuff to reposition her to the Caribbean. For Alaska cruising.......... Princess is totally awesome - don't miss Tracy Arm.

Sounds like a lot of you recommend Princess for Alaska. What about the Land/sea tours? Opinions on worth it (i.e., do you really see and experience more than when you are at sea and on an excursion?)

Lisa, Can't wait to see the photos and read your total review. Thanks for posting so quickly and letting us know that it's back to reality. (Gotta work to pay for the cruises, right?)

I don't want to highjack this thread - but to answer your question the Princess Cruisetours are sooooooo worth it! The land portion shows you the REAL drop dead gorgeous Alaska and you mingle with the local sourdoughs, then the cruise gives you the beauty by sea, the highlight being the tidewater glaciers...... so it's the best of both worlds. Unfortunately the ports on the Alaskan cruise, become swamped with cruise passengers and have also become one jewelry store after another, which is another reason to see the inland towns of the Last Frontier without the thousands of cruise passengers.
