elfed
Hi Folks,We came home yesterday off the Sapphire Princess after 7 very hot days in Mexico. It would be extremely unfair to judge a country on just 3 excursions in 3 towns but it was enough for us not to want to go back We, by far prefer the Caribbean. We visited Puerto Vallarta, Mazatalan and Cabo San Lucas We took three different beach excursions. We found the sand very pebbly on all 3 beaches and painful to walk on without some kind of foot wear. The sea of course had been churned up by the recent visit of Hurricane Norbert and the color was of a murky blue for the first few days There also was a tremendous undertow that pulled you back out to sea if you were not careful. We were constantly badgered to buy things from the beach sellers who didn't want to take "no, thank you" as an answer. I thought Jamaica and La Romana were bad for this but this was worse. The 5 hour 45 minute flight to Los Angeles was awfully long. We came in one day early and stayed at the Marriot Hotel. That was very nice with good food. On the subject of food, I have to say that all food and drink on our excursions was excellent with no resulting stomach problems. The Mexican people on the shore ex: were great. I will do a seperate short review on the Sapphire later. Regards, James.
TheSkipper
How was the ship?
DebbieandJerry
James, we've gone to the Mexican Riveria at least 3, possibly 4 times. First reason is the proximity to Arizona. Next is cost (much cheaper). However, we agree that there is no comparison between Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico and the Carribean. We remind ourselves each time that it was a great cruise and a good time was had by all simply because we were on vacation, on a ship, in the ocean. Hopefully the ship was good. hazelson
Sorry you didn't have such a good time. We really enjoyed ours :o)
elfed
Oh, don't get me wrong hazelson,we did have a good time despite what I wrote. It was just the differences in the beaches and real blazing hot sun that shocked us. (We also witnessed incredible poverty on one of our excursions with the locals throwing angry looks at us) We were hoping for similar conditions (sea and beach) as the Caribbean but it wasn't to be.Ah well it's only one opinion. Regards, James.
Joanandjoe
I'm curious, as a non-"beachie". If you didn't like the first two beaches, why did you try a third, instead of something else? I would think there are plenty of things to see and do other than beaches. I sympathise about the weather, At 85, both of us are miserable; at 90, beyond miserable. hazelson
James - I agree with you about the poverty - it is everywhere down that way. I hope us spending our $$$ helps in some way
