Deal watch: Luxury cruise line Seabourn slashes prices for summer

Always wanted to try a luxury line? Now's your chance.

Famously ritzy operator The Yachts of Seabourn today is launching a significant sale on cruises to Europe with prices as much as 60% off regular rates.

The one-week promotion is for seven voyages of seven to 14 days aboard the Seabourn Pride, Spirit and Legend between April and August of 2009 and includes lead-in fares as low as $2,840 per person.

The offer can't be combined with other promotions and is valid for new bookings only.

The seven cruises on sale, all in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe:

-- The June 20 sailing of the Seabourn Legend from Monte Carlo to Barcelona (7 nights).

-- The July 11 sailing of the Legend from Rome to Monte Carlo (7 nights).

-- The June 20, July 11 and or Aug. 1 sailings of the Seabourn Spirit from Venice to Rome (7 nights).

-- The April 14 sailing of the Seabourn Pride from Ahens to Lisbon (14 nights).

-- The Aug. 20 sailing of the Seabourn Pride to the Norwegian Fjords, roundtrip from Copenhagen (9 nights).

That definitely piques my interest; but I did not see this deal on the Seabourn web site. Maybe it will be there tomorrow.

I suspect that all portions of the cruise market, from low cost to luxury, are suffereing in this economy.

Sounds great. However we already have our two cruises book for 09 and a cruise in Europe is not one you can "slip in." :wink2:

The $2,840 fare for the 6/20 Venice to Rome cruise was so good that I called the cruise line. Taxes are only $17.06. So far, so good. But round trip coach airfare, including taxes and transfers, is $2,333.66 per person, bringing the total to $5,190.72 per person for the cheapest category. That's more for a 7 night cruise, with air, than for our 9 night Regent cruise in late October; so we'll stick with Regent.

For now, we plan on only one cruise for 2009, in late October. Our spring vacation will probably be a car trip, a national parks trip, or a visit to friends in Myrtle Beach.
