mercedes
My DH calls me a hotel snob, but I only stay at the Ritz, the Four Seasons or something comparable. It doesn’t matter how far away the hotel is or whether they offer free shuttle or breakfast. When the kids were younger and it was 7 of us, Holiday Inn, Econo Lodge and Best Western were our best friend for a number of years. They are all grown and I can now afford to indulge. We have stayed at the Ritz in St. Thomas, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas before and after cruises. You rock girl!!
Gregswife
I usually look to see if there is a Comfort Suites in the area. Not just a Comfort Inn - I prefer the Suites. It has to also be rated 3 diamonds or higher by AAA. I also will not book a hotel that does not have pics on their website. All Comfort Inns and Suites offer continental breakfasts, but we aren't usually out and about by the time they end, so we rarely partake. If we have flown to our embarkation city, I do look for one that has a shuttle to take us to the port. If we are driving to the port of origin, that isn't an issue because I prefer to park at the port. If there was a Staybridge Suites in the area, I would book it instead. Andrea, are you staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Galveston or the other one? I have heard negative things about the Sunspree and I think Robert has had some bad experiences with them. The Comfort Suites on 89th is very nice, was just built last year and the rooms rival some of the nicest hotels we have stayed at both here and abroad. The rooms with balconies face the ocean and they are quite reasonable, so next cruise, you should check them out.
hazelson
I always check out tripadvisor to see what others have to say. We look for proximity to airport or cruise port, a choice of restaurants within walking distance - and a mall is always a plus :o) Clean and quiet is all I realy care about - and a good cup of coffee in the a.m.
DebbieandJerry
Have to agree that a GOOD cup of coffee without having to hunt for it is also of importance
