mercedes
Good news, Port Canaveral fans: Norwegian Cruise Line plans to home port a ship in the area for the first time in 11 years. The line announced this week that it will base the 1,936-passenger Norwegian Sun at Port Canaveral seasonally starting in October of 2010. The vessel will sail alternating seven-day Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises out of the city departing every Saturday through April 16, 2011. “By bringing Norwegian Sun to Port Canaveral, we are offering cruisers in Central Florida and to those vacationing in Orlando quick and easy access to Freestyle Cruising," says NCL president and CEO Kevin Sheehan. "In addition, Port Canaveral offers our guests a wide range of pre- and post-cruise packages with the ability to visit a number of family attractions.” The Sun’s Eastern Caribbean itinerary will include a stop in Nassau, Bahamas; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Philipsburg, St. Maarten. The Western Caribbean voyages will include calls in Cozumel, Mexico; Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala; Belize City, Belize and Key West, Florida. The line also is promoting back-to-back cruises on the ship that will hit all of the above destinations while repeating no port twice. The cruises go on sale today. cruisingcats
So does this mean they will pull her from the Alaska cruising out of Vancouver, BC? If that is the case that will leave only 2 ships sailing out of Seattle for Alaska. I know that they will have the Star be a floating hotel for the Olympics in 2010. Is this why they are moving the Sun? I guess I should visit their website to see what is going on. Thanks for the heads up.

Alaska recently raised its fees ships have to pay to use it's ports so some lines are leaving the alaska run
