Sunbeam
Am I reading right in the american airlines sites? We now are paying for the registered bagages: $15 for the first one and $25 for the second one, and we are entitled to 50lbs each.
JoeyandDavid
Customers who purchased domestic economy class tickets on or after June 15, 2008, will be charged $15 each way for the first checked bag and $25 each way for the second checked bag. Customers who purchased domestic economy class tickets May 12, 2008, through June 14, 2008, may check one bag for free and check a second bag for $25 each way.Our carry-on policy of one personal item (such as a purse or laptop bag) plus one bag remains in place. That is the way i read it myself....The weight issue is also correct
Sunbeam
I prefer knowing before we leave. We will build it in the expenses. Maybe it will change again before we leave LOL.
deb1220
We're also flying American Airlines next Sunday and that is how I understand it too! Just be careful to not be over 50lbs. then you'll be paying $50 extra!

rogue
There is only one major us airline that still allows 2 bags free (SWA). Only 3 others allow the first bag free, but charge for the second bag (Alaska, Jet Blue, USA3000) All of the others charge $15 for the 1st and $25 for the 2nd. Reading their overweight policies is like one person wrote it for all of the companies. Unless you can fly SWA, you'll have to pay trough the nose. I wouldn't expect that this will change in the near future (or even in our lifetime). It will definitely be heaper to have the ship launder my clothes on our next cruise. KeithnRita
The best thing to do is to buy a luggage scale. Two years ago we had to shuffle our stuff from one bag to the other on our return trip at the FLL airport. That saved us $50. On our last cruise four bags cost us $160 roundtrip on AA. Although close, we did not have an over weight bag.
JoeyandDavid
The best thing to do is to buy a luggage scale. what we use is the bathroom scales and pack to 47 pounds... so far that has worked well
