mercedes
No doubt about it, big name musicians are becoming a more common sight on the high seas. The latest to make an appearance? James Taylor, who will headline a Queen Mary 2 sailing in June. Cunard says the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and his band will perform twice during the famed ship's June 19 eastbound trans-Atlantic crossing from New York to Southampton, England. The line, which made the announcement late Tuesday, says space still is available for the six-night voyage. Taylor, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who has won five Grammy Awards over a long career and recently performed at Barack Obama's presidential inaugration, will play in the QM2's 1,105-seat Royal Court Theatre near the end of the voyage. He'll be traveling on the ship with his family in advance of a summer tour. In its press release on Taylor's appearance, Cunard quoted the musician as saying he's always wanted to take an ocean liner back to Europe. "It’s such a civilized way to go," Cunard quotes Taylor as saying. "It was a dream to use the passage to transport and rehearse our summer tour: band, crew and family; kit and caboodle. I’m looking forward to the pair of concerts at the end of the trip and, hallelujah, no jet lag."
