Norwegian Cruise Line ship will have 14 eateries

There will be no shortage of dining options on Norwegian Cruise Line's next ship, the Norwegian Epic.

The 4,200-passenger vessel, scheduled to debut in May 2010, will have 14 -- count 'em -- eateries including such NCL standbys as a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant and a sushi bar.

Fourteen, for those keeping score, is four more than on the biggest NCL ships now at sea such as the Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Gem -- already known for a record-setting number of eateries,

The Epic's dining options, announced today in an online press conference, include:

-- Taste. Located in the ship’s atrium on Deck 5, this "retro-chic" velvet curtain-enclosed hot spot will serve traditional and contemporary cuisine.

-- The Manhattan Room. Designed with an "art deco supper club" feel, this two-story-high restaurant on Deck 6 comes with a dance floor as its focal point and will offer live music and dancing in the evening. The room also features floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows looking aft.

-- Café Jardin & The Great Outdoors. The ship's buffet-like casual eatery will feature action stations, a signature of NCL's most recent ships. It'll have a traditional English country garden conservatory look.

-- Cagney’s Steakhouse & Churrascaria. Norwegian’s traditional American steakhouse takes on a new twist with the addition of Argentinean churrasco (in addition to mouth-watering steaks, passengers will be able to sample a variety of skewered meats presented by tableside passadors). Another new addition is a large, centrally located salad bar.

-- La Cucina. A Tuscan-style eatery that serves regional Italian specialties including pizza and pasta plus steak, chicken and fish dishes. NCL says the themed space will feature an Italian courtyard with a large olive tree with hanging lanterns that opens to Café Jardin above.

-- Le Bistro. Norwegian’s upscale bistro, found on many of its other ships, is back and again serving classic French cuisine with an American flair.

-- Shanghai’s. This new addition to Norwegian’s specialty dining options will serve a mix of Chinese dishes and noodle bar specialties. Built around an open kitchen, the room will feature décor that reflects Old Shanghai in the 1930s and is reminiscent of the China Club in Hong Kong.

-- Wasabi. An expansive sushi and sake bar that serves sushi, sashimi and Japanese Yakitori dishes.

-- Teppanyaki. As the largest teppanyaki restaurant at sea with 115 seats, this expanded version of the teppanyaki restaurants on other NCL ships will feature up to 24 knife-wielding chefs cooking exhibition-style Japanese cuisine on flat top grills.

-- O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill. A classic neighborhood sports bar and restaurant that will serve up American favorites and comfort food, 24 hours a day, and also offer oodles of activities including three lanes of bowling, darts, pool tables, foosball and arcade games. The atrium’s two-story high screen will be visible from inside the restaurant and additional flat screen televisions will show sporting events.

-- The Epic Club and Courtyard Grill. Located high atop the ship in The Villas complex, this is a "modern and elegant restaurant" reserved exclusively for Norwegian Epic’s suite and villa guests. NCL says the décor will reflect a private club ambiance with contemporary and modern furnishings, and a large wine display, dotted with glass sculptures and pearl drapes. The Courtyard Grill is the more casual, outdoor area of the restaurant serving Villas guests for breakfast and lunch.

NCL says it will reveal one more Norwegian Epic restaurant in May.
