How should the world commemorate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster? At least one British company thinks that -- yes -- a cruise is in order.

Industry watcher Seatrade Insider reports British firm Miles Morgan Travel has begun taking reservations for a trans-Atlantic cruise from Southampton, England to New York that will commemorate -- and partially re-create -- the fateful sailing of the legendary ship in 1912.

The outlet says the travel agency has chartered British line Fred Olsen’s Balmoral for a voyage scheduled for April 2012 (exactly 100 years after the Titanic sank on its maiden voyage).

The sailing will follow the Titanic's original route westward and include a memorial service on the morning of April 15, 2012 in the exact location where the Titanic went down. The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912.

Seatrade notes organizers plan to sail with 1,309 paying passengers - the same number that sailed on the Titanic -- and serve food that matches the original voyage. Period entertainment also is in the works.

Thank goodness they are only planning a "Partial" re-creation! Interesting and fun way to honor the Titanic..although I am not familar with the fred olson line does anyone know if the Balmoral is approximately the same size vessel?

I also thought the plan to sail with 1,309 paying passengers - the same number that sailed on the Titanic -- and serve food that matches the original voyage was a great idea..

Thanks Carmen.. Great Post
