sailingrose
Glad to hear you were comfy in Barcelona. The critical board carries stories of gypsys, pickpockets, etc. Again being a NYer will help in this case, we know how to watch people. JohnG
I had to jump in here. I was in the port of Naples dozens of times on Navy ships and most recently last June when we were on our Summit cruise. I have never felt threatened any more than in any big city like New York or Chicago. In fact I have felt more threatened in some of them. And at night it can be different, but you aren't there at night. In June we walked from the port the train station and took the train to Pompeii. See my Celebrity Summit for details and prices. When we came back we took a taxi to the Castle of the Egg and then lunch accross teh street at a cafe, then walked to San Marco square, the Galleria, an more, before going back to the ship. As long as you stay in busy public areas an off the back streets you are fine. We have a NATO base there and Navy families live there, too. The only scary thing is the traffic! When you refer to it as similar to NY I have a better prospective. I'l heard the traffic is pretty hairy. Thanks for the opinion.

zebra
Rose - in our opinion all the cities in Italy have scary drivers.... I have never seen anything like it! Barcelona - oh my gosh, I, like Joey, never felt unsafe there for a second. With regards to port intensity. I think we all know this going into this cruise..... my philosophy was, I had spent a lot of money on the cruise, I was going to see and enjoy every port.... and boy we did. It's only 10 or 13 days (whichever you are doing) what is that in the scheme of life..... plenty of time to rest at home. Enjoy every single minute.... we sure did and the Naples (Amalfi Coast) stop was our highlight after Santorini!!
sailingrose
Joey, NY is easy, just use common sense. Jackie, I kind of have a list of things I must do......Venice-Gondola, Rome-Vatican, Pisa-climb the tower, Naples-eat pizza! I have all that planned and more! LOL I think we are going to Sorrento by ferry in Naples. Waiting on Howie's thoughts. Thanks for all the help.
zebra
Great plans...... you will love Sorrento. Do you have any port stops in France?
sailingrose
We're stopping in Cannes. We may go into Monte Carlo but not sure yet. I'll definitely be having lunch or at least a snack there.
