WilNic
Has anyone hear of cancellations for Southbound out of Anchorage/whittier alaska? The highway to Whittier is closed indefinetly and the volcano is another potential problem. None of the cruise lines are saying anything yet, but someone may have heard something???? zebra
I haven't heard anything about the road closure. Mt. Redoubt should not have any effect on the road to Whittier. We sailed out of Seward... so that's always an option if there is any truth in the rumor. As Rose says the cruise line would let you know if there was a cancellation. rogue
I've heard nothing at all about cancellation. I tried googling Alaska cruise cancellations, and came up with absolutely nothing. If you've seen anything on other boards, just be aware that there are lots of people who make up stories just to scare people.

I have been checking Alaska News on Google search and the Whittier Road is blocked by rock. As for the volcano, it is still possible to spew ash and flights get cancelled, as the ash is detrimental to ALL engines, be it plane, car or ship, so there could be some major problems for the May sailings. As usual, the cruise lines don't usually let you know till just before the cruise. I've seen this too many times with the FL. hurricanes.
