Italy ship thwarts pirate attack

Rate this topic

So should cruise ships begin to have soldiers or police on board, people who are trained to use deadly force if need be to thwart attempts by other pirates, sort of like marshalls on planes?

It appears to be in the works... I have read rumors that the security force on the ship is a team Israeli trained security guards.

I see no problem with armed, trained security forces on cruise ships. I would rather the good guys have a little more fire power than hoses and deck chairs!

Especially when the bad guys are riddling your ship with automatic weapons!

I'm with you Steve. One good shooter with a Barrett .50 caliber, belt fed machine gun, could play havoc on six guys in a speed boat.

Here's an idea, give a free cruise on each sailing to a retired green-beanie or Marine recon and you've got your gun locked and loade3d for next to nothing.

This is not a belt fed, but it will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Effective kill range is over one mile, through armor. Hooorah.

Let's see if I can get this picture up. It is more what I had in mind.

Steve: I'll stand the first watch with this little number. And, I'll bet Andrea and Cheryl would have a blast with it. No pun intended.

Skipper, I've fired the Browing M2 .50 cal a few times, but I've never had my hands on this Barrett model. Does it take the same rounds as the Browning?

I found a picture of the M2 in case Cheryl or Andrea want to buy one.

Does anyone see a picture here? :huh2: When I posted during lunch, it showed up; but when I got home it was gone. Did you take it Cheryl(GW)?

The reason I asked about the ammo was because the cartridge for the Browning M2 is pretty substantial and packs a heluva kick. The Browning mounts on a tripod, so you don't really feel the kick; but from the picture Ed posted, it looks like the Barret's stock is designed to fit against your shoulder. Ouch.
