Have you gotten a massage on a cruise?

Just wondering if I'm the only one who has never done this? Something about lying naked on a table with a stranger..... I don't know. I did have a foot and ankle massage but that's it. Hubby had a full body massage on last cruise and loved it .

I've had a couple massages and I'm with Wayne......loved it. The last one was done by a man and it was marvelous!!!!! Best one I've ever had.

Cheryl, it is done very discreetly with use of a drape and towels. I understand the apprehension.....I was kind of freaked the 1st time.

  • 2 weeks later...
I was thrilled with the last guy.......I said no and the sales pitch ended........

My budget doesn't usually allow massages on cruises although I would indulge if I could afford them.

I think it is pure bliss. You are really not exposed unnecessarily and, being a nurse for over 44 years,

I'm not all that modest anyway. I always indulge in ports that offer good deals on massage...the

best I ever had was in Kusadasi, Turkey....$20 for two hours at a place recommended in the Cruise

Compass...oh, my word, if we'd been there longer, I'd have done it again. Also, in Ensenada, we

found a great place, highly recommend, that did two hours for $90 so I had mine there rather than

on the ship.

Carmen - what an amazing deal $20 for 2 hours... unheard of!!!!

Last cruise in Cabo they had couples massages for $75 for an hour (that's 2 people) great bargain... but they wanted CASH, and we offered our card... no go!

Like Rose I have had many massages on board... all of them are over priced in my book - but I have had some great massages although 55 minutes is nothing!!! I also prefer the guys to the girls. Don't worry about modesty. You strip down to panties while they are out of the room and then you lie on your tummy on the bed and cover yourself with the sheet/wrap.... they knock on the door to see if you are ready. When the masseuse comes in they move the sheet in sections... never exposing anything - it's all very modest and comfortable. Cheryl, try it... it's totally amazing, just over priced on the ships unfortunately.

Today one of our fellow RVers (male) went for a massage in Lafayette - $100 for 2 HOURS!!! Now that would be major relaxing!!! $50 an hour is way more realistic......

I love having massages and don't really have a preference to male or female. I like a strong, deep tissue massage with extra attention to feet, hands and scalp. I have a hard time paying the prices that the cruise ships require so I don't and haven't had a massage on any ship. I have won facials and foot/ankle massages and have loved them. And, yes, you have to say "no" upfront to the sales pitch or that is really all you hear.

One of the best massages that Marcy and I had was in the beauty salon where they offered a scalp massage with some type of conditioner. Both of us added this to an "updo" that we splurged on. The picture of Marcy is precious. She looks like she could just melt in the chair!

Hmmm, thanks for explaining the details, Jackie. Oh, so you do leave a little something on . Maybe one day I'll get up the nerve, but like Carmen said, still would be weird. Although, from what you all say about it, the benefit would probably outweigh the weirdness of it.

Throughout the foot and ankle massage I did on one cruise, the person never stopped trying to sell me something, and that certainly detracted from the experience.

Cheryl, I have to agree that they push too hard to sell their product. Kinda like when we were in Jamaica. If you let me look at what you have, feel it, "use" it and keep your mouth shut, I might just buy it.

I was very surprised on the Mercury this last time. The spa had an entire counter of trial products put up every day. They also had classes where there was NO SELLING whatsoever. I took a class on how to eliminate puffy eyes and another on aromatherapy. I thanked the presenters for sticking to the topic of giving information and not deviating by trying to push product. I would have booked services with both of the presenters but their costs were way out of my budget range (almost double the going rate in Tucson.)
