Gregswife
It is my understanding Joey, that it will be charged on ALL bookings, if it goes back into effect. Even those that are already booked. As we have 2 cruises booked, I certainly hope that it does not come back...the cruise line more than makes up for the higher cost of fuel with all the extras they charge you now.... I don't think they can retro charge.. We were told when we booked, that even though we were not being charged the fuel fee right now, if oil went above $70 a barrel, we may have to pay the $9 per day per passenger fuel charge. I really hope not because my son and Jessica are still unsure if they are going to be able to swing the cruise or not and I hate to mention that they may have to pay more. Actually, if that does happen, I guess that we would just pay theirs...

TheSkipper
Joey: Don't really know the answer. All cruise lines have "reserved the right", but have no idea how or to whom it would be applied. I'm going to email my TA and see how he answers the question.
rogue
Crude went over $65 per barrel today. On our cruise in Nov, we started with a surcharge. When they took it off, they did tell us that it may be reinstated. If our final payment was made, they may have a more difficult time collecting. DebbieandJerry
FYI: The fuel disclaimer stayed on all of our paperwork even up to the day of sailing (and I paid for our cruise a good 6 months in advance and got the fuel surcharge as shipboard credit)
TheSkipper
Joey, et al: Here is what my TA said re fuel surcharge: "ALL bookings. This was the result of a lawsuit filed in Florida a while back. The cruise lines ended up refunding $$$$$ when the price of oil went down, but they kept the right to apply surcharges to established bookings if the price of oil went back up. The max they can charge is $10 pp per day... but that is what they were charging when the rate was $140 bbl. If they add a surcharge, it may be much less than that." Looks like we are all on the hook.
