Puerto Rico Tourism Company announces partnership with New York Mets

Published on Thursday, August 6, 2009 Email To Friend Print Version

NEW YORK, USA -- The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) has announced a new relationship with the New York Mets.

“We are excited to be partnering with the New York Mets, and promoting sports tourism in Puerto Rico,” said Mario Gonzalez De Lafuente, deputy director, PRTC. “The Mets celebrate Hispanic culture and have several stars from Puerto Rico. In Puerto Rico, the Sports Tourism Council guides the public policy plans, searches for events and recommends everything related to sports tourism.”

The partnership is also providing a unique opportunity for Rums of Puerto Rico, a division of the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company, to serve some of its key brands - Don Q, Bacardi, Palo Viejo, Barrilito, Castillo and Ron Llave - at Citi Field’s hospitality spaces including: the Ebbets Club, Caesars Club, the Promenade Club, as well as the Sterling and Empire Suites.

“The games provide a unique opportunity to showcase our brands to New York’s best fans and highlight Puerto Ricans in the major leagues,” said Javier Figueroa, director of the Rums of Puerto Rico Program. “We invite Mets fans to share our passion for delicious and unique drinks and world-class baseball.”

“We are pleased to partner with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company to connect our fan base with one of the world’s great vacation destinations,” said Dave Howard, executive vice president, Business Operations. “With a number of our players hailing from Puerto Rico, this new partnership was a natural fit.”
