Sunbeam
We are going on a Wine Cruise in October on the Mercury and we will be in San Francisco from October 18th at 7:00 am until October 19th at 7:00 pm (36 hours). One of the things, we want to do on the 19th is leave the ship and go to the Golden Gate Bridge. Can anyone recommend us any line of bus and how long it would take us to get there? BSCorvette
The cruise ship will park approx 3 miles away so it's an easy cab ride or you can go to San Francisco Muni.com to get the number of buses. You may also want to get a CityPass from citypass.com (costco also has them for $10 less) That way you unlimited bus rides and side trips including Alcatraz... worth looking in to! DebbieandJerry
We sailed in/out of San Francisco on the Mercury and went right under the bridge. Quite a spectacular sight. We love San Francisco. For that cruise, we went 2 days early and spent time in the city. Did lots of walking. The port is toward the far end of the pier and you can walk in either direction. Toward the very end is a farmer's market. The total other side with Fisherman's wharf. We just figured we were going to walk and did. The next time we went was Marcy's 50th birthday celebration and we spent 5 days there. This time we ventured out using their public transportation (as well as walking). Again, another fabulous time. Have a great time. Enjoy the Mercury. We've been on it twice and loved it both times.
1shipshape
I think I've looked into those "Wine" cruises on the Pacific Coast. I would totally love to take one some day. We also love S.F. and have spent many days on the Cable Cars and we went to the Cable Car Museum, which was free. We also ate at Bubba Gump's. It was a great place on the pier 39 and we've visited a few times. We also went on the local bus to the Bridge and hiked in the park right beneath it. There are so many things to see and do there. I would definitely like an "overnight" cruise to be there for the whole night and the next day.
ametrinel
Take a cab, instead. It's close and a lot less hassle!
